Description
The FEBRUARY 15 SESSION AT 10AM(est) offers an array of fine furniture, decorations and paintings for the stylish interior. Featured is a group of handsome Regency and William IV rosewood furniture, including a set of eight William IV brass inlaid rosewood dining chairs (lot 3045) and a Regency brass inlaid rosewood games table (lot 3068). Among the other notable furnishings are an Empire gilt-bronze mounted mahogany commode (lot 3243), a group of bamboo and lacquered furniture, and a collection of Georgian style pine furniture, including a secretary bookcase (lot 3244). Complimenting the furniture are numerous Staffordshire groups and lamps, Staffordshire blue and white pottery, Chinese export vases, a group of faux tortoise shell decorations, and a collection of Regency rosewood clocks and boxes. Among the selection of paintings are a number of 19th century British and French school works. The FEBRUARY 15 SESSION AT 1PM(est) is the annual DOGS IN ART auction, coinciding each year with the Westminster Kennel Club dog show. Showcased are two centuries of canine paintings and sculpture by some of the genre's most important artists. Included are breed portraits that highlight a breed's characteristics, sporting paintings that illustrate a dog's working abilities, and charming pet portraits. Highlighting this year's sale is a masterful painting of English setters by America's finest setter painter, Percival Leonard Rosseau (lot 3681). Certain to attract attention, and a few smiles, is an important pair of paintings from the original 1903 series of dogs playing poker by Cassius Marcellus Coolidge (lot 3687).
