Description
The May Important Design series will be one of our most striking auctions to date with three sales: session 1, session 2 including Post war + Contemporary Art and Objets d'affection. Important Design An unprecedented selection of important works will be offered in the two-day series. The best of Scandinavian design from masters Hans Wegner, Fill Juhl and Henning Koppel will be offered alongside a curated grouping of pieces by a American craftsmen Evans, Nakashima, Esherick, Castle, Maloof, Powell, Coffey and Nyquist. Highlighting the sale will be rare commissioned designs from Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouve and contemporary designs by the likes of Harush Shlomo, Aranda/Lasch, Forrest Myers and Zaha Hadid. From iconic to contemporary design, the two-day sale will be anchored by a complete Garouste & Bonetti interior from a London residence that perfectly showcases the design duo’s neo-baroque style. The layered, tactile space plays with the senses, incorporating various materials and shapes that are at once playful and avant-garde. This commission features several original forms that went on to become iconic designs, notably the Dawson lamp. Together, the dining room and living room pieces illustrate the brilliant originality of Garouste and Bonetti’s creations. Mattia Bonetti commented about this interior: "I think that the design invented for here remains one of the most accomplished examples of my style, and the one with which I very strongly identify." Sold as individual lots, this collection is a rare opportunity to acquire works from a complete commission. Objets d'affection: 30 years of Nilufar Gallery Nina Yashar has passionately collected pedigree works for nearly thirty years. The offerings here represent the diversity of her aesthetic ranging from historic masters to contemporary darlings. At Nilufar, her gallery on fashion’s Via Spiga, Yashar showcases a creative dialogue between her international eye and designed objects.
